Three Ways to Keep Your Books Looking Good

E & M Bindery - Shrink Wrapping

Scuffing. Rubbing. Scratching. Unfortunately, many otherwise superb books have been damaged by transit marking. At E & M Bindery & Finishing, we strive to get your books into end users' hands in as close to mint condition as possible. We have many ways to help protect your books during shipping and transit. Here's a closer look at three of them.

Shrink Wrapping
Shrink wrapping helps protect your books from transit scuffing. Think of it as well-spent insurance money. Shrink wrapping can protect single items or product sets. At E & M, we have four shrink wrapping lines, and can wrap up to 4,000 packages per hour.

Film Laminating
Film laminating offers excellent protection against scratching and rubbing in transit - and for everyday book usage. For front and back covers with dark or metallic ink, be safe and add laminating, or another paper coating such as UV. Be sure to specify stay-flat laminating film. Avoid polypropylene laminate because it scratches too easily.

Boxes & Packing
Properly packing your boxes is the key to getting maximum protection for your books. If boxes are packed too loosely, damage such as transit marking and scuffing can occur. If books are packed too tightly, bent corners and scratched covers may become a problem.

When making packing decisions, focus on offering your books maximum protection while taking up a minimal amount of space. To help you accomplish this, E & M can provide cartons that fit most standard book trim sizes, including 8.5" x 11", 5.5" x 8.5", 6" x 9", 9" x 12" and more. If given enough lead time, we can produce a custom-sized box to fit virtually any book.
